(1/2) The Critique of Pure Reason By Immanuel Kant. Audiobook - full length, free

Full-length/unabridged audiobook for free, with text. HQ recording. "The Critique of Pure Reason" is a seminal work written by the German philosopher Immanuel Kant and first published in 1781, with a second edition in 1787. This complex and influential philosophical treatise is considered one of the most important works in Western philosophy. It is Kant's attempt to reconcile empiricism and rationalism while addressing fundamental questions about the nature of human knowledge and metaphysics. The book is divided into three major sections: the Transcendental Aesthetic, the Transcendental Analytic, and the Transcendental Dialectic. 1. Transcendental Aesthetic: In this section, Kant argues that knowledge is composed of two main elements: intuitions and concepts. He distinguishes between two kinds of intuitions - time and space. Time and space are a priori forms of intuition that structure our experiences and make it possible for us to have knowledge of the world. Kant asserts that these intuitions are not derived from experience but are inherent in human cognition. 2. Transcendental Analytic: This section is the core of Kant's philosophy and deals with his theory of the "transcendental deduction." Kant seeks to explain how it is possible for concepts (categories) to be applied to intuitions and, thereby, yield knowledge. He argues that our mental faculties, particularly the understanding, actively structure sensory experiences by organizing them through the categories. Kant's distinction between analytic and synthetic judgments is essential here, where he claims that synthetic a priori judgments are the foundation of scientific knowledge. 3. Transcendental Dialectic: In this section, Kant addresses metaphysical questions and critiques traditional metaphysical arguments. He identifies the limitations of reason in trying to answer questions about the existence of God, the nature of the soul, and the immortality of the soul. Kant argues that reason can only provide regulative principles for these ideas, but they cannot be objects of knowledge. Throughout the book, Kant develops his ideas about the limits of human knowledge, arguing that the human mind is incapable of knowing things as they are in themselves (the "noumenal" realm) and can only know appearances (the "phenomenal" realm). This has significant implications for metaphysics and epistemology. Kant's philosophy in "The Critique of Pure Reason" has had a profound and lasting impact on various fields, including philosophy, psychology, and science. It laid the groundwork for the development of German Idealism, influenced the work of philosophers like Johann Fichte, Friedrich Schelling, and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, and continues to be a subject of extensive study and debate in contemporary philosophy. Kant's distinction between the phenomenal and noumenal worlds, his views on the nature of human knowledge, and his exploration of the relationship between reason and experience remain central topics in philosophy.
