In this video, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, reaffirms his administration’s commitment to improving access to safe drinking water in rural communities with the commissioning of the ARISE Water Project in Ikot Ebo Ikono, Uyo Local Government Area. The Governor was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo, who noted that the project aligns with the State’s rural water supply drive led by the Akwa Ibom Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AK-RUWATSAN). He commended the project initiator, Mr. Uduak Inwang, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Marketing and Social Media, for giving back to his community and helping to reduce waterborne diseases through access to clean water. The initiative also includes a solar-powered community phone charging station, designed to ease the burden of residents who previously traveled long distances and incurred high costs to charge their phones. Providing a technical overview, Engr. Itoro Atakpa explained that the project features a 150-foot borehole, powered by two 644-watt bifacial solar panels, supplying water to a 5,000-litre overhead tank. The system serves three public water outlets for community use, as well as private connections to the Qua Iboe Church pastor’s residence and a nearby household. Speaking at the event, Mr. Uduak Inwang described water as a fundamental human right, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, and emphasised that the project location was chosen through community consultation to ensure broad benefit. He also assured that an attendant would be engaged to manage the facility. Community leaders, including the Village Head Eteidung Samuel Moses Udoh, expressed gratitude to the Governor and praised the initiative for easing long-standing challenges related to water access and phone charging, while also requesting additional infrastructure support for the community. This video captures a powerful example of grassroots development, public-private partnership, and the impact of the ARISE Agenda in action.
