Northeast Ohio weather forecast: Rain and snow this weekend with brutal cold next week

Your 6 p.m. Northeast Ohio weather forecast for Jan. 17, 2024: It will be an active start to the weekend. In fact, temperatures will remain above-freezing through the overnight. The relatively warmer air will be accompanied with our next storm system. Rain and snow showers will be spreading in Saturday morning. This has prompted a Weather Impact Alert Day for the first half of the day. Rain/snow showers will be arriving before daybreak and continue into the day. Cold air will be punching in through the morning changing conditions over to all snow. The snow could be heavy at times but mainly wet and slushy. Be prepared for slick travel. We have Weather Impact Alert Days, not just for early Saturday with the wet snow, but Monday-Wednesday with the bitter cold heading our way. Highs on Sunday will hold steady in the low 20s and upper 10s before dropping in the single digits Monday and Tuesday for highs. Overnight lows will be below zero Monday night and Tuesday night with wind chill values in the -10 to -20 degree range. Precautions need to be taken for pets, people and pipes as well as your vehicles as car batteries don't do well in this bitter cold.
