WIP-AM April 1, 1976 Aircheck - Tom Moran Show Run time: 37 minutes 11 seconds (music is telescoped for copyright reasons) From my personal air check collection. This air check will be 50 years old on April 1, 2026. Background: On April 1, 1976 WIP Radio in Philadelphia invited listeners to enter a raffle by sending in post cards to the station. Randomly selected winners would get to host one hour of their favorite air personality's program. John Chambers (b 1952- d 2025) of Lansdowne, PA was selected to guest host Tom Moran's 4:00 PM hour. This air check from my personal air-check collection includes news read by Mike Matthews and Steve Ross. News stories include the first day of CONRAIL and recall of Bicentennial candy. The tape starts at 3:59 PM and ends about 5:04 PM. Recorded on a Sony TC-160 tape deck and my personally assembled Heathkit AJ-29 AM/FM tuner located in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia; I received WIP-AM (610 Khz) from its transmitter site in Bellmawr, NJ. Founded by Gimbels department store, the station first went on the air on March 17, 1922. September 1986 : WIP starts broadcasting sports talk with Howard Eskin in the afternoon from 5 p.m.-6PM. In November 1988 WIP becomes all-sports talk except for the morning drive. For a more detailed history: https://wiki-gateway.eudic.net/wikipe...
