Dick Le Mair studied modern and classical percussion and composition at the Conservatory of Rotterdam. He has worked with the well-known Duo Contemporian, played many festivals and concerts all over the world, and lectured. He continues to compose and arrange music, including for television and radio. On his first solo record “Over the Ages”, Dick has created his atmospheric and contemplative sound. A review says: ". . .The music breathes the soul of the earth, brings the mysterious chants of the sea to life en turns the silver of the moon into sounds. The gentle powers, as the poetess once wrote, will certainly win in the end." Dick's music reached new heights with “Impressions of a Pilgrimage”. The 15 compositions on this album are his masterpiece that create an intense emotional experience and form a musical pilgrimage narrating the long way to Santiago de Compostela. Dick leads us to the destination with ancient chorals in a modern guise of smooth Jazz and World music. A later project, “Via Crucis” (2014)is a musical impression of the traditional Stations of the Cross. The world premiere of 'Gloria' (mixed choir and piano/harp/bass/vibraphone and percussion) happened in fall 2016 and that of 'Benedicat' (vocalists and harp/sax/flute) in December 2017. In summer 2018, Boudewijn Zwart performed the new piece for carillon 'Marja - Ode to Love'. Most scores are available at Donemus Publishing House of Contemporary Classical Music. In 2019, Dick began working as a conductor for percussion groups and his compositions for those groups are available at Show & Marching Music.
