A photography expedition in the Central Highlands of Tasmania in search of scoparia blooms. In this video we visited Pine Lake and then ventured further inland to Lake Ada in the Western Lakes region. Scoparia is endemic to the alpine regions of Tasmania and it blooms for around two or three weeks in Summer - although it can be a bit hard to predict exactly when this will occur. Pine Lake is found on the Highland Lakes Road, shortly after arriving at the top of the Central Plateau. The walk to the lake takes around 10 minutes. The walk to the summit of Projection Bluff is fairly close by and is a fairly easy mountain climb which might make for a nice day out if you want to combine the two. The Western Lakes are made up of thousands of small lakes and tarns and it's a very popular spot for trout fishing. The Central Highlands can get extremely cold. Temperatures below -10c are not uncommon in the winter months although if you're going there to fish then you may not care too much about that. As far as photography goes, in Summer you get nice splashes of colour with the wild flowers and in Winter when it freezes, the landscape takes on a surreal appearance.
