Doctor O'Donovan highlights some common signs of base of skull fracture. Based on their location, skull base fractures can be divided into those affecting the anterior, middle, or posterior fossa. These include: “Racoon eyes” sign CSF leak - otorrhea (through the ears) or rhinorrhoea (through the nose) - resulting in halo sign. Blood pooling behind the eardrum, causing it to appear purple. This is known as a heamotympanum.
