Within the cold permafrost landscape of Yukon there is something highly unusual; a several square kilometer desert with tall sand dunes. Known as the Carcross Desert, this feature is sometimes nicknamed as "the world's smallest desert". This feature did not form due to extreme heat, but rather extreme cold. Its origin is somewhat similar to how the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes formed in Alaska. Note: The Carcross Desert isn’t actually a desert as it receives too much precipitation each year to be considered as such.
