Chiu Yu-feng (Chiu.Yu-Feng), a native of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, graduated from the National Taiwan International UniversityofArts (specializing in motion pictures), the Master of Animation Art Creation of the National Tainan Institute of the Arts (specializing in sand animation production), the National Tainan University of the Arts . She studied in a doctoral program in art creation theory department of TNUA (study on :the image language of documentaries and motion pictures). She has been engaged in sand animation creation and sand art performance for many years. She is also one of the beginners of Taiwan children's animation summer camps (in 1999 ). Since 2004, She has been working as a full-time teacher in private universities. Based on her rich professional qualifications in experimental animation and cross-disciplinary artistic creation, Chiu.Yu-Feng was twice invited by the Golden Horse Awards (the highest glory of Chinese films) to serve as an animation judge, in 2016 and 2022. The invention of Pinscreen animation device originated from an exotic couple: the Russian Alexander Alexeiff (later naturalized as a French citizen) and his American wife Claire Parker. The couple developed and designed the first Pinscreen animation device in their own studio around 1930. As a veteran filmmaker, Alexeiff and animation artist Claire, in addition to using the device in similar printmaking In his Pinscreen painting, then they combined the needles with stop-motion photography and used it in the creation of animated films. Because all this happened in their private studio, many publications in the past and current online information cannot accurately write down the year when the first pinscreen device was actually invented. Most of them are in the early 20th century or around the time. It is speculated that the invention was invented around 1930. The only relatively clear record is that the National Film Board of Canada invited the artist couple to come to the National Film Board of Canada in 1972 to give speeches and introduce demonstrations. From then on, She started her own exploration and practice to make her first pinscreen animation. French designer Alexandre Noyer offered her a lot of technical help through internet. Chiu.Yu-Feng also one pioneer to create a new aesthetical image language of pinscreen animation. She brought her pinscreen board out of indoors and made lots of outdoor pinscreen animation shorts by Samsung Galaxy Ultra smart phone. This brand new style of pinscreen animation image broken some invisible rules of making pinscreen animation in animation history.
