Imphal International Airport has emerged as one of the busiest airports in eastern India, handling nearly 1.6 million passengers in 2025. The surge is attributed to prolonged highway blockages in Manipur, making air travel the most reliable option. The airport currently manages around 28 daily flight movements, with about 2,300 passengers arriving each day. Cargo operations are set for a major boost with a newly completed terminal ready to handle over 1,000 metric tonnes per month.
