DIY Prop Halloween Skull 💀 2 Piece Silicone Mold Making & Plaster Castings

We're back with another DIY Halloween Skull Prop. We talk about 2 Piece silicone mold making, fiberglass mother molds, and prop skull castings. Look at a two part silicone mold to make prop skulls for Halloween. This video gives you a behind the scenes of our mold making and inside look at how to make a mold of a skull and how we produce all our realistic looking fake human skull props for our tomb or crypt on Halloween. After we cast each skull we paint and age them with a latex paint. No home or yard haunt is complete without lots of DIY skulls to decorate it. The first year we started making all of the plaster skulls we wanted to create and fabricate the look of an old catacombs inside the walls of our walk through mausoleum. We didn't finish as many skull props as we wanted to the first year but we were able to get a few mounted on the end wall around the life size crypt coffin I carved and sculpted from foam. First thing we did was purchase Lindberg model skull and brought it home and started changing the look of it. I added clay to several places to build up to make it look different and was sure to plug all the holes with oil based clay. This was to make sure none of the liquid silicone would leak and make its way inside the skull where we didn't want it to go. Then it was time to create our custom fiberglass mother mold, matrix, case, or blanket mold. After I lightly sprayed some mann ease release agent 200 on it I covered the clay with a two part fiberglass resin and then applied several layers of fiberglass to build up the thickness I know would make a strong mold for casting. This will insure that your castings will keep their original shape. We also made a box base or stand using wood dowels. This helped keep the weight down instead of using plaster and makes it easier to twist and spin if your interested and trying to turn the mold over and over to create a realistic hollow casting of a human skull. The silicone we chose was mold star 15 by smooth-on it was easy to work with and had a long pot life of 50 min or so. Vacuum degassing was not required and you just mixed equal parts together. It cured in 4 hours and then we did the other half of the mold the same way making sure to use a release agent. We use a plaster by USG called white art which is hard when dry in 30 minutes. Then we age and break teeth dunk them in watered down paint and wipe them off. We can make them out of foam, plaster, resin, wax, or plastic.
