Our enchanting trip to Sintra, Portugal, began with a convenient Metro ride directly into the heart of town. From the station, we immediately caught a tour bus up the winding, lush roads to the spectacular Parque da Pena. Embracing the region's abundant natural beauty, we embarked on a refreshing hike through dense forest trails that led us to the ancient walls of the Moorish Castle (Castelo dos Mouros), which provided truly breathtaking panoramic views. Next, another short tour bus ride brought us to the magnificent, vibrant National Palace of Pena (Palácio Nacional da Pena), a masterpiece of Romantic architecture. After soaking in its colorful grandeur, we walked back through the exotic flora of the surrounding Parque da Pena before catching the bus back down to Sintra town. The final leg of our journey was a delightful walk through the charming streets to the magical Quinta da Regaleira. Here, we explored its stunning grottoes, lakes, and the iconic Initiation Well, immersing ourselves in its intriguing symbolism and architecture. With the day complete, we enjoyed a final walk back through the picturesque town center, concluding our fairytale adventure at the Sintra Metro station. It was a day perfectly balanced between historical exploration, beautiful hiking, and architectural wonder.
