Cities love to show off their fancy bits and have puff-pieces done about them over and over, but what is the reality of the active transportation infrastructure beyond what they highlight? Are the sidewalks, multi-use paths, and dedicated bike lanes really as good when you need to go to other parts of the city for day to day errands? Is their bike network as good or bad as Google Maps would have you believe? That's what I've set out to explore here where I'm living in Carmel Indiana. This video isn't meant to be Carmel exclusive as the infrastructure, be it good and bad, can have the observations applied to nearly any city in North America. While we can't aspire to have Dutch/Netherlands infrastructure anytime soon, we can be laser focused on being the best version we can be here in North America, given how far behind we are in achieving true freedom of independent transportation for all people of all ages and abilities.
