In a dramatic climax, McCall travels to Moscow and ends Pushkin’s reign with shocking finality. Returning to Boston, McCall finds peace and a new purpose. When Alina, now free and healed, thanks him, McCall realizes his calling: to help those who cannot help themselves. He places an ad in the newspaper: "For the helpless and the hopeless... I offer help."
