H. Sukesti Martono MA Jakarta, 17 February 2026 Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah who has given us the opportunity to experience the beauty of Ramadan again, a month full of mercy, forgiveness and blessings. Shalawat and greetings may always be poured out on our lord the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, friends and people until the end of time. Friends who are glorified by Allah, Today we will reflect on a moment that we often live, but sometimes take for granted: sahur. --- 1. Sahur: Sunnah that revives the soul Rasulullah ﷺ said: "Make sahur, because in sahur there is blessing." (HR. Bukhari and Muslim). The blessing of sahur lies not only in the food we eat, but also in the value of worship contained within it. Sahur is a sign of obedience, a sign of our readiness to undertake the fast with sincerity. --- 2. Sahur as a Moment of Gratitude We often view sahur as merely a routine: wake up, eat, drink, and then go back to sleep. However, sahur can be a moment of profound gratitude. Gratitude for a simple meal: a piece of bread, a sip of water, or warm rice is a great blessing. How many of our brothers and sisters do not have that opportunity. Gratitude for health: a body that is able to wake up in the last third of the night, eat food, and prepare for fasting is an extraordinary gift. Gratitude for the opportunity to pray: sahur is a powerful time to pray, ask for forgiveness, and draw closer to Allah. --- 3. Expressing Gratitude at Sahur How do we make sahur a moment of gratitude? Gratitude verbally: say Alhamdulillah for every mouthful. Gratitude with the heart: cultivate a sense that food is not just the result of effort, but a gift from God. Gratitude with good deeds: intend for suhoor to strengthen our worship, refrain from evil, and spread goodness throughout the day. --- 4. Suhoor as a Moment of Family and Happiness Suhoor can also be a moment of togetherness. Sit with your family, greet each other gently, and pray for each other. Make suhoor not a rushed meal, but filled with warmth. Include short prayers: ask for strength, blessings, and forgiveness. In this way, suhoor not only strengthens the body, but also strengthens the heart and family bonds. --- 5. Reflection of the Soul Dear friends blessed by Allah, Suhoor teaches us that even small blessings are worthy of gratitude. If we are able to be grateful for a sip of water during suhoor, it will be easier for us to be grateful for the greater blessings in life. Allah says: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase your blessings. But if you are ungrateful, then truly My punishment will be very painful." (QS. Ibrahim: 7). --- 🌸 Conclusion Let's make sahur not just a meal, but a worship that fosters gratitude. With sahur, we learn that life is not about how much we have, but about how we appreciate every gift from Allah. May our sahur be a moment that soothes the heart, touches the soul, enlightens the mind, smartens the mind, and pleases the family. Wassalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
