Brownells Gun Tech Steve Ostrem took a trip to his own vault and brought out another gem: this Dan Wesson Model 22 revolver chambered in, you guessed it, .22 Long Rifle. This nicely made wheelgun came out in the early 1970s, and it has the Dan Wesson trademark interchangeable barrel. You could have one DW revolver and barrels for it in multiple lengths, which you could swap for different kinds of shooting activities. The barrel assembly consists of an exterior shroud and a separate inner barrel securely retained by the shroud. Feeler gauges were included to help you properly set the barrel-to-cylinder gap when you change barrels. These guns often came in "Pistol Packs" that included the revolver itself and several barrels. Cylinder lockup at the top front of the crane is unique AND extremely robust. It contributes to the excellent accuracy of Dan Wesson revolvers. They are very strong guns that rarely break, and many originals are still shooting today. The Dan Wesson Model 22 was a serious competitor for the Smith & Wesson K-22 and Model 17 / 617, as well as similar Colts. Original production ended in the late 1980s, though CZ USA has acquired the Dan Wesson intellectual property and occasionally produces revolvers on a custom basis. Most original Dan Wesson revolvers on the used market are .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum centerfire guns. Rimfire guns are quite rare. If you see one in .22 LR or .22 Win Mag, and you can swing the price, Steve's advice is to GRAB IT!
