Friday the 13th... unlucky for some? Not for #DoctorWho fans! This supercut celebrates the exciting announcement of the recovery of not one but TWO previous missing Doctor Who episodes, the first to be returned to the BBC's archives in 13 years. The two long-lost episodes, 'The Nightmare Begins' and 'Devil's Planet', belong to the 12-part epic 'The Daleks' Master Plan' starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor and have not been seen anywhere in the world since their original BBC1 transmissions in November 1965 - more than 60 years ago! They join 'Day Of Armageddon', 'Counter Plot' and 'Escape Switch' to bring the tally of visually existing 'Master Plan' episodes up to five. The 16mm black-and-white films were found in an anonymous private collection by Film Is Fabulous, a Leicester initiative to preserve vulnerable film collections held privately in the United Kingdom. They were screened to a very surprised Peter Purves at the Phoenix Cinema, Leicester on Wednesday 11th March and officially announced via the BBC News website on Friday 13th March. The newly-restored episodes will be available to view on BBC iPlayer from Saturday 4th April 2026, with a physical release no doubt to follow in due course. With thanks to BBC News, Toby Hadoke, Josh Snares, Matt Pott, The Doctor Who Guide, The Gargantuan Apple, WhoCulture for their clips, to Andrew Wiseman for his amazing vintage BBC2 clock. The biggest thanks of course goes to Film Is Fabulous for bringing joy to many thousands of fans around the world.
