Today I'm going to share with you how to create a bold and eye catching fashion image using only 2 lights and my brand new Optical Spot modifier that I designed in conjunction with Westcott. If you follow my work you know that I love two things — bold graphic imagery and the color red...and this shoot has both! 😆 As mentioned above, we'll be taking the Optical Spot for a spin during this shoot. What this modifier lets you do is created tiny “slices” of light through a focusing lens and gobo (go between). So if I wanted to light just a portion of a subject, I have ultimate control with this modifier. You you might be thinking to yourself “what’s the difference between this and a snoot?” While both can help create a focused light on the face, a snoot generally is just one shape whereas the Optical Spot can create a tighter pocket of light as well as different shapes and waaaay more control as you’ll see in the video. This is only a 2 light setup, so the main light is going to be focusing a shape on the model's face while letting the rest of her body go into shadow. My second strobe is going to be a bare bulb with red gel to light the background. I like using my Fashion Gray background which is more of a neutral gray that really shows off the color when I add a gel. I love creating images like this, it ticks all the boxes for my style and how I like to build a scene. The Optical Spot really helps create that interesting slice of light on the subject’s face and the DIY headpiece for that bold graphic look. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Get all the info for recreating this setup including camera info, distances, and more in a concise PDF lighting recipe card: https://lindsayadler.photo/os-red-gel... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So what do you think?
