BIOPARC fuengirola is a jungle in fuengirola city center located at Calle Camilo José Cela, 6, y 8, 29640 Fuengirola, Málaga, Spain. They are open everyday from 10am -6pm but hours may differ if its a holiday. BIOPARC Fuengirola champions a new animal park model based on respect for nature and the preservation of its species, a model that has already become a benchmark at a European level. To visit it is to enter an authentic documentary about the deepest tropical forests of Madagascar , Equatorial Africa , Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific islands . It`s characterized, among other things, by its architectural design called zoo-immersion, which immerses the visitor in the environment of the animal. The entire park is designed to envelop whoever walks through it in a recreation of the habitat where the animals come from. The visit becomes an authentic journey through places as remote as Madagascar, Equatorial Africa, Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific islands , where a window opens onto a magical world and offers all residents and visitors of the Costa del Sol an extraordinary recreation of this ecosystem, where vegetation and water elements are constant. It opened to the public in 1998 but in the 70s it was in a sorry state. It existed for 30 years as a classic enclosure for cages and pens and grew chaotically with the urban development of the city. Neither its aesthetics nor the living conditions of the animals were acceptable. In December 1998, Rain Forest obtained the concession for the old park, and started transforming it and creating the first park entirely designed under the avant-garde concept of zoo-immersion. Taking advantage of the climate in Costa del Sol and the small size of the available land, it was decided to reproduce a single ecosystem in the new park: tropical forests. The subtropical vegetation that grows on the coast of Malaga served to recreate the tropical rain forests of Madagascar, Equatorial Africa, Southeast Asia and, more recently, the Indo-Pacific islands. For two years the face of the park was completely transformed. All the fences and buildings disappeared, rivers and waterfalls, caves, valleys and rocks arose. The small size of the plot was quite a challenge. Underground stables, deep canyons, and raised gardens were built to prevent views of adjacent buildings. Thus, the park grew vertically and managed to create the impression of being in a larger environment. A big step at this stage was when the animals began to be introduced to their new environments. Especially the chimpanzees, finally they would run,touch plants,swing and hide from each other. At last they would start acting like chimpanzees.In June 2001, the new Fuengirola Zoo opened to the public. On March 25, 2010, the Fuengirola Zoo changed its name to BIOPARC Fuengirola .Reason being its union with its sister park, BIOPARC Valencia , and creation, from the two parks, of the Instituto del Trópico Foundation, whose purpose is to promote the preservation of tropical forests, animal and plant species , as well as the cultures, towns and people that inhabit it. With this change of brand, its philosophy and the principles of animal conservation that make this park unique in Spain are maintained and strengthened.
