"Le Clemenceau", the lead ship of its class, often nicknamed "Clem" in the navy, was the 6th aircraft carrier to enter service in the French Navy but only the 2nd built in France (after the Béarn) and the 1st designed from the outset as such. In this film, we discover the embarked aircraft "Aquilon", "Alize" and "Etendard", their catapulting and take-off. The "Clemenceau" (registration: R98), was a light aircraft carrier of the French Navy. It was named after the French statesman Georges Clemenceau and was the eighth carrier ship of the French Navy. Here are some interesting facts about the Clemenceau: Launched: 21 December 1957 Commissioned: 22 November 1961 Decommissioned: 1 October 1997 Length: 265 metres Width: 51.2 metres Displacement: 24,200 tonnes (normal), 32,500 tonnes (maximum) Crew: 1,920 men Armament: 8× 100 mm cannons, 2× SACP-SAM (52 cells), 5× 12.7 mm machine guns Aircraft: 35 aircraft and 4 helicopters The Clemenceau was involved in several important operations, including: Independence of Djibouti (1974–1975) Civil War in Lebanon (1982–1984) Iran-Iraq War (1987–1988) Second Gulf War (1990) War in the former Yugoslavia (1993–1996) After being decommissioned, the Clemenceau was scrapped in 2010. "Le Clemenceau", navire de tête de sa classe, souvent surnommé familièrement "Clem" dans la marine, fut le 6e porte-avions entré en service dans la Marine française mais seulement le 2e construit en France (après le Béarn) et le 1er conçu dès l'origine comme tel. Nous découvrons dans ce film les avions embarqués "Aquilon", "Alize" et "Etendard", leur catapultage et décollage.
