Demonstrating how in boresight mode the AIM-54's with an STT lock will come off active but follow SARH guidance if the target is outside 10nm until the point that it sees a target in front of its active seeker. At that point it transitions back to ARH. Allowing you to break off attack of an STT track without trashing the missile. NOTE... You can even break your track on the target before the missile acquires the target. Once AWG-9 support is severed the missile will continue to fly to the point where it was last told the target was. If the bearing deviation is not too large by the time the missiles search cone arrives to where it was last told it was it will find and acquire the target. Followed by a maddog shot after flipping up the ACM switch with no radar lock at all from the AWG-9. This saves you precious moments sometimes waiting on a VSL sweep or PAL sweep. Not the best idea in a furball though.
