: Experts from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia discuss outcomes and long-term management of babies with teratomas. http://fetalsurgery.chop.edu Babies with teratomas that successfully make it through delivery and treatment typically do very well. Lori Howell, Dr. N. Scott Adzick and Dr. Alan Flake from the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment talk about the importance of follow-up and monitoring in the first few years of life. It is important to monitor for fetal tumor recurrence to make sure the tumor doesn’t come back or become malignant (cancerous). Long-term follow-up may include imaging studies, such as MRIs, and blood tests for tumor markers, such as alpha-fetoprotein and beta-hCG levels to monitor for recurrence. Outcomes for babies born with sacrococcygeal teratoma are typically very good. Watch this full video series to learn more about the various types of teratomas, the importance of accurate diagnosis and monitoring, long-term outcomes, and the most advanced treatment options for fetal tumors currently available.
