Fred Bason was a writer, diarist, bookseller, broadcaster and an important witness and recorder of 20th century Walworth and Camberwell, south-east London. Yet little is known of this man who lived in Walworth all of his life. Graham Voce has been studying and collecting the works of Fred Bason for over 20 years. In his talk and presentation Graham looks at the whole life story of Bason, the driving force behind his books and bookselling, his celebrity collaborations and commercial endorsements. Drawing on photographs, letters, books and newspaper articles, Graham also explores the reason behind the indifference local people showed towards Fred Bason and his sadness at the lack of attention he got from them and why now, 50 years on from his death, there is a growing interest in this multi-faceted talent.
