Welcome to Episode 2 of my Birthday Pilgrimage on the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Route in Japan! In this episode, I take the first bus out of Tanabe (check out Episode 1 to see what a great city Tanabe is to explore before/after your trip) to Takijiri. I recommend getting there pretty early because other people will as well and the line gets pretty long for the first buses out of town. From Takijiri, we make our way through the forest to a viewpoint and then on to Takahara. The views here are so lovely. The good weather on this trip allowed for such beautiful vistas along the way, I'm thankful for that. After Takahara, it was on to Chikatsuyu. I got some food and snack supplies at the local A-Coop grocery store, then walked onward on the Kumano Kodo to get to the Iris Park Auto Campground. This road and paved path walking as often skipped as people get to Chikatsuyu then take a bus to their lodging or stay here then take a bus to the next proper "trailhead". On this trip, I wanted a continuous footpath once I started the trail, and it really allowed me to see more and feel totally immersed in the experience. Love that and recommend. The main Kumano Kodo tourist website has literally everything you could need to be able to plan your trip. I've linked it and the campground site below. https://www.tb-kumano.jp/en/ Iris Park Campground (I LOVED this CG) https://irispark.jp/ ♥️ I’m so excited to have some amazing supporters already. If you’d like to contribute to future adventures, it would mean so much to me! All funds go directly into channel content. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey!
