The Cheshire Home Invasion Murders | The Case Of Petit Family | True Crime Documentary #TrueCrimeDocumentary #TrueCrimeNew #crimegenre #GhostofCrime The Petit family, admired for their stability and strong community ties, experienced a horrific tragedy in July 2007. William Petit, a doctor, and his wife Jennifer, a nurse diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, had two daughters, Hayley and Michaela. On the evening of July 22, 2007, two ex-convicts, Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes, followed Jennifer and Michaela home after spotting them at a store. Initially planning a robbery, the criminals took control of the house and its occupants. They brutally beat William, restrained the family, and assaulted Michaela. Jennifer was forced to withdraw money from a bank, where she secretly alerted authorities. Despite this, the police delayed intervention, observing the house from a distance. Hayes later raped and strangled Jennifer, while both criminals doused the house and its inhabitants in gasoline, setting it on fire. The daughters, Hayley and Michaela, perished in the flames, and William barely escaped, severely injured. Joshua and Hayes were caught trying to flee. Both were convicted, with Hayes receiving six death sentences and Joshua also sentenced to death, though both sentences were later commuted to life imprisonment when Connecticut abolished the death penalty in 2015. William Petit, the sole survivor, was left to cope with the loss of his entire family.
