The composer pleads with the fish-eyed Mother, the compassionate protector of the meek, to shower him with her grace. Through affectionate and intimate appeals, he celebrates her beauty likening her eyes to fish, her face to the moon, and her teeth to jasmine buds. He hails her as the daughter of the Himalayas, sister of Syamakrishna (a reference to the composer himself), and consort of the serpent-adorned Lord Shiva. With vivid imagery the crescent moon adorning her head and hair dark as rain clouds, the krithi blends tender devotion, poetic elegance, and heartfelt surrender into a moving prayer for divine protection.
