The Tenne Lodges in Ratschings, South Tyrol, Italy, are a 5-star hotel in the Ratschings-Jaufen ski area. Modern design, excellent cuisine, and a beautiful spa area with a stunning infinity pool ensure a relaxing holiday. The hotel is located directly at the valley station of the gondola lift and is ideal for skiers and hikers. The Tenne Lodges in the Bichl (Colle) district of Ratschings opened in 2016 and are family-run. The design of the Tenne Lodges consistently emphasizes natural materials. Natural stone and wooden shingles on the facade and in the interior create a warm and rustic aesthetic. The hotel has a total of 35 rooms, which it refers to as lodges. There are also 4 chalets located 2,5 km (1,5 mi) away. The lodges in the main building are very spacious; even the smallest category has over 40 m² (430 sq ft). We stay in a "Superior Lodge" with over 50 m² (600 sq ft) and a large balcony. The room is paneled entirely in light wood, giving it a warm atmosphere. The bathroom has an open design. A special feature of the hotel concept is the fully equipped kitchenette. Guests can also stay in the privacy of their room and cook for themselves. However, they would be missing out! The gourmet cuisine under the direction of chef Mike Bräutigam is a highlight of the Tenne Lodges. The Gault-Millau-awarded cuisine breaks with the usual conventions of a rigid menu and opulent buffets. At dinner, which is part of the half-board option, guests can choose from approximately 12 to 14 different dishes daily and create their own menu. The food combines South Tyrolean classics with local ingredients and haute cuisine dishes and is truly excellent! Breakfast is also superb. In addition to a generous buffet, there is also an à la carte menu for fresh egg dishes and sweet treats. Each morning, there is also a daily special, such as Kaiserschmarrn or Pofesen. In the small fitness room, you can work off those extra pounds, but we're really here for skiing and hiking. The cable car is located opposite the hotel, and you're quickly at the altitude of the Ratschings-Jaufen ski area. Situated between 1300 m (4300 ft) and 2150 m (7100 ft), the ski area is generally quite snow-sure. If there isn't enough natural snow, artificial snowmaking is used. With 28 kilometers (17 mi) of slopes and 7 lifts, the ski area is manageable. The predominantly intermediate slopes are nice and wide and easy to navigate. And it's not crowded here – just right for leisurely skiers! There are also several options for winter hiking, such as the valley trail to the end of the Ratschings Valley or the panoramic trail to the Platschjoch at higher altitudes. After an active day, you can relax in the hotel's wellness area. The hotel's large indoor infinity pool is an aesthetic design highlight. It offers views of the surrounding area and the mountains and is clad inside with hundreds of wooden shingles, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. The wooden shingles of the hotel's exterior cladding flow seamlessly into the interior. The sauna area includes several saunas and a steam room, as well as an outdoor whirlpool. There are spacious relaxation rooms, designed in warm wood tones, as is the case throughout the hotel. The award-winning spa offers high-quality massages using local ingredients such as herbs and Swiss pine oil. What we liked: Our room was very spacious and generously sized. The location right next to the gondola lift is perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. The food was truly excellent and satisfied even discerning gourmets. The wellness area, and especially the pool, is very nice. The treatments in the spa area were also very good and relaxing. What we liked less: The open bathroom in the room! This architectural concept hasn't impressed us anywhere yet. Yes, it looks good, modern, and spacious! But either you heat the room up to the temperature you like in the bathroom, in which case it's much too warm at night. Or you reduce it to bedroom temperature and then freeze when you shower! The loungers by the pool and in the spa area are too close together for our liking. Our conclusion: A beautiful hotel in a prime location right next to the gondola lift!
