How to Tune a Banjo: Blueprints of Clawhammer Banjo Part 2

Learning how to tune your banjo is an essential component to mastering the instrument. In old time banjo, we have at our disposal a myriad of tunings all with their own mood and idiosyncrasies. It can be intimidating to explore these tunings, and this video is designed to help you through the basics. I advocate tuning with your ears using a reference pitch versus tuning with contact tuners, or other passive devices. The two main tunings you'll be moving between are G and double C. In this video, I show you my methods of quickly and decisively moving between these tunings. I also demonstrate how I take a completely out of tune banjo and put it into tune. Although I don't like contact tuners for most tuning applications, I do recognize that there are folks who will benefit greatly from them.
