This is a piece I performed years ago, under the tutelage of Master Tian Lianyuan, revised and updated for 2021. Like many comedies, this doesn't translate well into another language. The set-up and the dialogue can be translated fairly easily, but at its core the joke is based on a double meaning that exists in Chinese, but not in English. Here, a convenient double meaning enables this renowned "master calligrapher" to navigate an embarrassing situation, by skillfully recycling the only five Chinese characters he actually knows how to write.
