On June 12 of 2015 I took this image and posted in on my Facebook. The doctors removed a 12cm tumor from my Thymus gland (Stage 3 Thymoma). The tumor had already leached onto my heart. The surgery ended up a sub-total resection; a % of tumor remained near my heart. Three weeks later chemo began. 6 cycles later (1 week on, 2 weeks off) I started 36 daily sessions of radiation to stand before you today as healthy as a horse who beat cancer. I am healthy but I’m not better. Cancer (I’m learning) is a multi-step process that requires ongoing development and maturation of your body, mind, and soul. The body must adjust to the tumor and then to the medicine. The mind must control the body continually as new stimuli enter it. The soul must face death while watching others cross into it. One year later my biggest challenge has been the side affects of chemo and whether or not it’s changed me into a different person.
