Performed in German, the libretto draws heavily on Friedrich Schiller’s original tragedy, though Tchaikovsky famously altered the ending to include the burning at the stake. Conductor Gerd Albrecht created a highly condensed version for this production, focusing on the psychological drama. Most notably: The Act 2 Ballet is omitted. Acts 3 & 4 are merged into a single dramatic flow.
