This is the first tournament of its kind in Latvia for players over 35 years of age, in which the best European and Latvian players of the respective age will compete. 64 players from 15 countries will compete in the competition, in age categories ranging from 35+ to 65+ for men and 45+ for women. The oldest player for men is over 70, for women – over 65. The tournament will feature squash players from the Netherlands, Slovenia, Lithuania, England, France, Austria, Croatia, Malta, Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Northern Ireland, as well as one Latvian from the USA. The largest number of players are from Latvia – 25, including Kevin Waring, who represents Great Britain and lives permanently in Latvia and is active in tournaments. Among the Latvian players, we should mention Latvian champion Baiba Lulle, who will compete in the combined 45+ group, the winner of the 1st stage of the Baltic Championship Laura Gaigala (40+), multiple Latvian vice-champion Arturs Perefistijs (35+), long-time Latvian national team player Gunārs Priževoits, who last year won 3rd place in the ESF Masters tournament in Poland in the 50+ group in a much tougher, 17-man competition. Dimitrijs Bekasovs, who won the ESF tournament medal in the Austrian Masters 40+ group last year, can also be proud of, and will also play in the Latvian Masters and is one of the authors and implementers of the tournament idea. The first “Latvian Masters” has managed to attract the strongest European players, both men and women. The 35+ group includes the Croatian champion, who is 1st in the overall men's ESF rating (Men Overall), Srdan Maksimovičs, and the 35+ group will feature both the 1st in the overall women's rating (Women Overall) from Germany, Janina Jasper, and the 2nd from Ireland, Siobhan Parker. “In Latvia, most active squash players are over 35 years old, some players have also competed successfully in ESF tournaments in other countries. By organizing the masters tournament in Latvia, we wanted to give several more Latvian players the opportunity to compete with squash players of similar age from other countries and to interest them in becoming more actively involved in European tournaments.
