How I built an easy and ultra-strong twin bunk bed for kids...or even adults, as it can support my 245 pound weight! I also added LED lighting, and used my laser cutter to produce (optional) optional plugs. I'm really pleased with how this build turned out, and I hope it inspires others to DIY something similar! Lumber cost was ~$150, total cost excluding slats and mattresses likely in the $300 range. Some twin beds are 39 inches wide, not 38 inches wide, so best to check that too. I may publish more instructions somewhere, so LMK in the comments if I need to hurry up!
