Mount Merapi, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, unleashed a series of six pyroclastic flows on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The largest of these raced 2.5 kilometers southwest from the summit, as captured in this video from Yogyakarta. According to Indonesia’s Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), the first flow was recorded at 11:04 a.m. local time, with a 59 mm maximum amplitude and lasting 279.5 seconds. The following flows traveled between 1.5 and 2 kilometers in the same direction. BPPTKG Head Agus Budi Santoso stated that magma supply remains active, and additional pyroclastic flows may occur within the current danger zone. Merapi’s alert level remains at Level III (Siaga).
