I was born and raised in Germany and then I moved to the Netherlands to do all my training here in Utrecht and in Maastricht and actually moved from Maastricht to Yale University. From there back to the Netherlands and then to Copenhagen to work there for five, eh, four years before I moved to Groningen. So I'm now here at this department and this section. It's a section which is very much involved in research on work and health, and youth and health and my research specifically focuses on the relationship between mental health and work. When I came here, what I experienced as a Rosalind Franklin Fellow was that there was a network in Groningen. It was a network outside this University Medical Centre, a Rosalind Franklin network with a lot of people from different faculties. But also within the UMCG there was a group of fellows and I think that was very important from the very beginning to have other Rosalind Franklins that you can talk to and exchange experiences. I think it was interesting to see that a lot of people asked me to come to their groups to give some talks to hear like what are you doing, what are your ideas, what is your vision, and how would you like to build up your research group. And that were of course great opportunities for me to tell about my ideas and my research and to spread the word. Which in the very end was very good because then you can establish new research collaborations within this UMCG, the University Medical Center, but also, as I said, with faculties outside the University of Groningen. And what you can see then is that you can build bridges. And not only between the Fellows but then of course you learn also a lot of other people, you get to know them much better. And it's research-wise but also you can establish networks, social networks actually. So that was a very very good opportunity to get to know others and also to think a little bit more out of the box when you think about your own research. As an example for work and health I can say that I am now working togheter with people, for example, from neuro-imaging and a gaming institution to think about research proposals, how we can actually help that kind of research forward. Well, for those of you who would like to apply I would say write an ambitious letter and come with an interesting and ambitious research project which really shows something of your ambition and also of the depths of your field. And you might also think about like applying to, or writing a little bit about what you think, what you would like to proceed in the next five or six years. So think ahead, I think that's very important when you do your application. For the rest I would like to say make use of us, we are very happy to share with you all our experiences. Research-wise and also for this organisation in the UMCG but also when it comes to like contacts outside the research world because that's of course also very important. Especially when you come from abroad, it's good to have a network of people here who share the same experience and who can help you. And as I said I'm happy to help so I think you will find my e-mail adress somewhere on the internet, on my MEPA and just write me or give me a call, I'm happy to talk to you.
