#pienza #italy #valdorcia #tuscany Pienza, called the hidden pearl of Tuscany, Italy, is a comune in Siena. It is located 110km southeast of Firence and 60km southeast of Siena. If you are traveling to Firence or Siena, it is good city where you can stop by and experience both history and nature. The historic district of Pienza was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, and the entire Val d'Orcia Valley was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2004. Today, we left San Gimignano and drove 91km (app. 1 hour and 30 minutes) to Pienza, staying at Agriturismo, a famous farmhouse in Pienza. First, we toured the old town of Pienza. We experienced Romeo and Juliet at the Piccolomini Palace and also admired Val d'Orcia, a huge plain with the Orcia River running through its center. And, we prayed devoutly at Pinza Duomo, where the memories of Pius II lives on.
