The Knitwit Stable brings back the iconic AaBe blanket during Dutch Design Week The Knitwit Stable proudly presents the updated AaBe x Knitwit blanket, an heirloom that has symbolized warmth, solidity and timelessness in Dutch households since 1929. This sustainable variant, made from wool from Kempische Heide sheep, will be unveiled during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. With this project, The Knitwit Stable continues the rich tradition of the AaBe blanket, now in a fully traceable and biodegradable version. For generations, the AaBe blanket provided warmth and security in Dutch homes. The Knitwit Stable has picked up the thread again and revived the AaBe blanket with respect for tradition and a focus on sustainability. An heirloom of the future The wool for the new blanket comes from Kempen Heath sheep, which are essential for the preservation of heathland landscapes in Limburg and Brabant. Sheep grazing keeps the heath vital, while the sheep spread seeds and keep soil life in balance. These sheep play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance in valuable nature reserves. In an authentic factory in Northern Italy, the wool is processed into a blanket in a traditional manner. The final product is unpainted, in its natural color, and completely biodegradable. At the end of its lifespan, the blanket can be returned to the earth as nutrition for the soil. This makes the AaBe x Knitwit blanket an heirloom that can be passed on for generations, without burdening the earth. Innovation and tradition go hand in hand The Knitwit Stable is more than a producer of woolen products. It is a knowledge institute that is committed to restoring the value of Dutch wool. Inspired by regenerative leadership, the team is working on a bio-circular production chain in which nature, craft and sustainability come together. The new AaBe x Knitwit blanket is a powerful example of this. “The AaBe x Knitwit blanket is not just a product,” says Reina Ovinge, founder of The Knitwit Stable. "It is a symbol of our commitment to high quality and sustainability. By reintroducing this blanket, we show that tradition and innovation reinforce each other." Dutch Design Week: a stage for design and innovation The new AaBe x Knitwit blanket can be admired during the Dutch Design Week, from October 19 to Sunday October 27. The presentation of this sustainable heirloom is an inspiring example of how craftsmanship, nature conservation and innovation come together in a 100% traceable circular economy. About The Knitwit Stable The Knitwit Stable, located on a farm in Baambrugge, is a small-scale production factory and knowledge institute that is committed to the revaluation and sustainable processing of Dutch wool. What started with four animals grew into a thriving herd of Angora goats and Merino sheep and an ambitious mission: producing honest wool products with respect for nature, animals and community that seamlessly connect craft, tradition and sustainability.
