You can donate at www.RedwoodZoo.org/donate Talk synopsis: In this two-part lecture, Monty covers the importance of native plants and how to create backyard habitat for sustaining local wildlife such as birds, bees, and butterflies. Jennifer then discusses garden “escapees” and answer questions such as “What characteristics make an introduced plant invasive? How do plants 'escape' into wildlands? Why can this become a problem?” Monty Caid is President of Lost Foods, a local non-profit dedicated to restoring native plant diversity and abundance and reintroducing native plants and native foods to create a sustainable society. Lost Foods operates Lost Foods Native Plant Nursery, maintains multiple Native Plant Sanctuaries, and educates the public on the importance of growing and using native plants for food, medicine, and sustaining wildlife. Jennifer Wheeler has worked as a botanist and range conservationist for the Bureau of Land Management since 1991. As a graduate of Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) with a B.S. in Rangeland Resource Science, she continues to work to conserve native and dynamic working landscapes for the benefit of ecological health and resilience, the support of local communities, and for the future enjoyment of generations to come. #ConservationInAction #SequoiaParkZoo
