I highly recommend always use a landing pad or a surface that is clean or no debris because you want to keep your Mavic clean. You want to keep all the debris away from the motors, the camera, your Mavic in general. So when you get started with your drone always use a landing pad. There is a video I made about landing pad. Now for me, I feel am more familiar with my drone so I mainly launch by hand and also catch the drone by hand. Because I have more experience with the drone. And because I do that I go out and adventure more. And I may launch from a clean area but I adventure out and most of the time I find myself away from take off area (I hike, I go through the woods, the ricer, beach...etc) .
