While rarely featuring in media headlines, the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic is set to hit millions of people in their 50s and 60s hard, research from Ipsos MORI and the Centre for Ageing Better suggests. Many experienced deteriorating physical and mental health in lockdown, had operations and treatments cancelled, and are worried about their job security and future finances as the country enters a deep recession. With this age group more likely to slip into long-term worklessness following redundancy, this generation is at risk of entering retirement without enough money to support themselves and in poorer health.
