The therapeutic special education program incorporates academic, behavioral and emotional support in a comprehensive learning environment to help each child achieve new skills and confidence, and return to their home school district with the best chance of success. A professional staff of educators, social workers, psychologists, nurses, speech pathologists and occupational therapists, familiar with the complex needs of students in a special education setting, guide children in the development of coping and self-regulation skills and building upon their individual strengths, in collaboration with their families. Green Chimneys’ unique nature-based approach integrates animal-assisted activities, horticulture and outdoor exploration into therapeutic treatment and education programs. Children considered for Green Chimneys’ therapeutic programs are youth aged 6-16 upon admission, who are struggling with a variety of social, emotional and behavioral challenges related to: Anxiety Disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Impulse Control Disorder, Mood Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, or School Phobia and Refusal.
