This session was recorded on April 9, 2021 10 AM - Noon PDT Hosted by National Harm Reduction Coalition and facilitated by Annette Hubbard What does harm reduction look like in Indigenous communities? While harm reduction has become a “catch all phrase” for many things in western culture, Indigenous Communities have been doing harm reduction work for centuries. Harm reduction work is much more than syringe access programs, and many tribal communities do not have access to syringe service programs. In this presentation we will explore what it means to do harm reduction work in tribal communities, models of Indigenous harm reduction, and promising practices. About the facilitator: Annette Hubbard is an Alutiiq woman who resides and works in Ninilchik, Alaska. She has personal experience in harm reduction as an entry point for her recovery. Annette works as a MAT case manager for the Ninilchik Traditional Council. She is also a volunteer and board member at the Homer Syringe Exchange which is the only rural syringe access program in Alaska.
