French Polynesia (Tahiti) 2025 Video 1 - Rangiroa

This is the start of one of our bucket list trips – Tahiti! We almost did this trip a dozen years ago but two weeks was just to short of time to go all that way. So now we’re headed there for just over three weeks and we’ll have time to explore each of the five islands we visit. We land on the island of Tahiti, which is part of French Polynesia, stay there for 2 nights and then head to Rangiroa for five nights. This is really the first island we will get to explore since the two nights on Tahiti were mostly about recovering from the flights to get here. Many of the tourists coming here are from the EU and most of those are from France so there is no language barrier for them. However, we’ve met couples from Germany, Australia, the Netherlands and of course, Canada (BC & Quebec). Rangiroa is the second largest atoll in the world but only a few of the motus (islands) are inhabited. It really is a small community that lives there but they are very proud of their atoll. There are three cruise ships that come inside the Rangiroa atoll (The Paul Gaugan, Oceana & Windstar) that bring much needed tourism to the island. Linda and I contemplated doing a cruise, but we felt we wanted to be able spend more time on each of the five islands we’re visiting. Trying to decide which islands to visit, where to stay and what excursions to do was challenging. Many of the businesses here do not have proper web pages, just a Facebook page if you’re lucky, and of course many are just in French (make sure your browser can translate for you), so we had to enlist the help of a great travel agent to bring some firsthand knowledge to the planning of this trip.
