The 1966-67 television season welcomed back in living color many stalwart and successful series on each of the three broadcast networks, and few were more successful during the 1966 season than CBS' The Beverly Hillbillies. The series was a top-10 show that season and through much of the 1960s. The show helped anchor the Wednesday night lineup for CBS, that also included Lost In Space at 8pm, The Beverly Hillbillies at 8:30, Green Acres (now in its second season) at 9:00, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. at 9:30, and The Danny Kaye Show at 10pm. The competition on the other networks that night was also formidable: ABC had Batman (at that point, a national phenomenon), Peyton Place and NBC had The Virginian and Bob Hope Specials and I Spy. Ahh, the good 'ole days when television was at it's best - there was always 'something on TV' back then, seven days and nights a week, every week of the year. This clip is from a special on the Beverly Hillbillies broadcast on May 26, 1993 celebrating The Beverly Hillbillies. On this segment, host Mac Davis pays tribute to Donna Douglas, and Miss Elly May Clampett. Here at Television Vanguard, we highlighted The Beverly Hillbillies television series with clips from this same Beverly Hillbillies 1993 television special. To find those clips, search our channel page from early this year in late May (2016) as we paid tribute to the 1965-66 Television Season. We also pay tribute to the wonderful Donna Douglas today, September 26th, on her birthday. May she rest in peace.
