On a rainy afternoon, I stepped into a surprisingly quiet, spacious, and comfortable mall. Reopened in 2025, The Cathay now welcomes the city with a refreshed look, yet it still holds onto a rare sense of calm. Right in the busy Orchard area, I found a place where I could walk slowly, browse slowly, and eat slowly. Affordable, uncrowded, and wide open — a small corner in the city where one can almost settle and breathe. The highlight for me was the old movie exhibition space. History wasn’t erased — it was reopened in a new form. Walking through it felt like time had been gently preserved. This place feels like a little urban sanctuary, a quiet charging station in the middle of the city. Even though change is inevitable, I secretly hope this calm will last a little longer.
