Real Self: Deepak Dugar, MD Transcription of Video Below: Hi, my name is Brianna and I am 25 years old and I am here because I am getting a rhinoplasty, a closed rhinoplasty. I came across Dr. Dugar because I was first looking for surgeons who had experience with ethnic rhinoplasty and also closed or scarless rhinoplasty. As an African American woman, it's important for me if I am seeking out any type of procedure whether its cosmetic or essential that the surgeon that I am seeing or the doctor that I am seeing has a great understanding of different ethnicities and the bone structures. So I chose to do scarless because one, since I am darker skin, my skin might have more of a chance of keloiding, more of a chance the scar might not heal as well and I didn't want to have any scars on the outside of my nose or of my face that would be present or visible. So with Dr. Dugar, obviously I started going through the photos on his site and saw a various array of people and I really like the results in the after photos so I felt comfortable with him. The difference that I know between scarless and open is that the incisions are made like on the inside of your nose rather than the outside. I would say that open rhinoplasty is a bit more of the original traditional route that surgeons used to take but also that there is less swelling and recovery with this version as well. My expectations for this is that I want to look very similar to how I look before in some lighting actually and some angles I feel like I can already see how my nose will probably be perceive after this surgery, and my main goal is to maintain my ethnic look, the way that African American women look often when Im looking up. What it seems to me is that Dr. Dugar does more of a refinement more than reconstruction and that is what attracted me to his work and made me find it appealing. So with ethnic rhinoplasty there is a huge misconception, there is a thought that you have to do all African American or ethnic noses with open rhinoplasty approach in order to address the anatomy appropriately. That is actually a complete fallacy.
