After completing her daily run, Carol felt so knackered that she instantly fell asleep. The British slang word ‘knackered’ is used to express when one is exhausted. It comes strangely enough from the word “knacker”, a word that refers to a person who slaughters old horses that are worn out and no longer able to work.
