Heirloom Apple TASTE TEST: Evaluate Apples Like the Experts do 🍏 😋|🍎| | Orchard People

In most grocery stores, you’ll see just a handful of common varieties like Honeycrisp, Red Delicious and Granny Smith. But there are thousands of different apple varieties. #heirloom apple tasting #heritage apples #apple tasting At this Apple Tasting, participants learn to taste 6 heirloom apple cultivars with expert Dr Amy Bowen of Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. Participants learn how to evaluate flavours, acidity, texture and more. The heirloom apple varieties in this taste test are: Cranberry Pippin, Kindil Sinap, Baxter, Empire, Melrose, Horenburger Pancake. The experts on the Zoom event are: • Dr Amy Bowen, director of the Consumer Insights Group at Vineland Research and Innovation who explains how tasting panels evaluate apple varieties. • Rachael LeBlanc, Apple Breeder and Research Scientist at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre who will explain how new apple varieties are developed. • Susan Poizner of the fruit tree education website OrchardPeople.com talks about the history of the featured cultivars. The apples that we are sampling come from O'Keefe Grange Orchard near Port Elgin, Ontario where they grow 600+ rare or historic apple varieties.
