Just as the assembly line transformed auto manufacturing, the building industry is on the verge of a revolution of its own with offsite construction. We will explore the promise of panelized construction rooted in building science and the solutions it brings for builders' biggest challenges -- from overcoming labor shortages and jobsite delays, to streamlining specification for optimum performance and efficiency, material waste reduction, and more. Attendees will get an in-depth look at the offsite construction process, the design and development of wall and roof systems, and a data-rich case study that brings the benefits of embracing this new era of building to life. The end result: Residential construction that takes a fraction of the time on-site, with unrivaled quality and performance to take your business to the next level. Continuing Education Units (CEUS) submitted 1 hour in* • Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) • Building Performance Institute (BPI) NonWholeHouse • Submitted for American Institute of Architects - AIA (HSW) • Certified Green Professional (NARI & CGP) • Certified GreenHome Professional (CGHP) Pillar(s): Energy, Health, Materials, • American Institute of Building Designers (AIBD) • State Architect / Builder License may be applicable • Building Science Institute (BSI) Verifier • Passive House Consultant US (CPHC) • Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) Lessons Learned 1. Understand the health benefits of offsite construction, which promotes improved indoor air quality through better air, heat, and moisture management. 2. Analyze how advanced panelized construction enhances safety by reducing jobsite delays and minimizing the exposure of workers to hazardous conditions. 3. Introduce the welfare advantages of panelized systems, which streamline construction processes and lead to quicker housing solutions for communities in need. 4. Articulate the importance of rigorous testing and research in ensuring that panelized construction meets high standards for performance and durability, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders involved. Speaker Will Lentlie is the Group Leader of Solutions Development for CertainTeed, where he focuses on launching innovative products, including panelized building systems for the offsite construction industry. Since joining CertainTeed seven years ago, Will has served as the technical lead for the development of the brand’s One Precision Assemblies offering – the first residential panelized roof, wall, and floor systems in the U.S. to be provided by a building products manufacturer. His expertise is deeply rooted in building science, performance, and offsite construction, including assembly design, heat, air and moisture transport, test program development, instrumentation and data acquisition, and numerical modeling. His leadership and insight in offsite construction has earned Will numerous industry speaking engagements, including: NAHB 2023 Building Systems Housing Summit 2023 (Washington, DC): “A Journey through Light & Sustainable Construction to Systems-Built Solution”, IBS 2023 Building Systems Councils Lounge (Las Vegas): “An Introduction to Moisture Management for Building Systems”, ASHRAE 2022 Buildings XV Conference (Clearwater Beach, FL): Session Chair for Off-Site Construction Practices. Prior to his work in building science and offsite construction, Will worked in the nuclear industry with a focus in mechanical/structural design and testing of critical safety systems. He earned his BS/MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
