If you dont ask you dont get, I asked to ride the footplate of 50049 Defiance from Exeter to Waterloo on the 1942 departure and the driver said yes. It was early January 1991 it was dark and I could not believe my luck, and would you believe it I had my video camera with me. Yes it was just an 8mm and not a very good one at that but sometimes its just great to have a record for your own use. But hey I thought I would share it with you anyway. Well just a few clips. Defiance waits for the road at Exeter and then we see the driver applying the power for a brisk departure from Gillingham. Next we run into Salisbury before the next clip shows us racing a slam door unit out of Baisingstoke before hurtling through Hook. We then run through Clapham Junction and apply a bit of power before coasting into Waterloo. I know its filmed at night hand held and not brill quality but I think its a little bit of fun.
